Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons melted butter (or oil)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Non-stick pan or tawa
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Step 1: Mix dry ingredients
  2. In a large bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well so everything is evenly combined.
  3. Step 2: Prepare wet mixture
  4. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Step 3: Make the batter
  6. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently mix until you get a smooth batter. Do not overmix — small lumps are okay. Overmixing can make pancakes dense instead of fluffy.
  7. Step 4: Heat the pan
  8. Place a non-stick pan on medium heat. Lightly grease it with butter or oil.
  9. Step 5: Cook the pancakes
  10. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the pan. Let it cook for 1–2 minutes. You’ll see bubbles forming on top — this means it’s ready to flip.
  11. Step 6: Flip and cook
  12. Flip the pancake and cook the other side for another 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Step 7: Serve hot
  14. Repeat with the remaining batter. Stack the pancakes and serve warm.
